Multiple Events – 22-October-2012

Multiple Events

October is a time of festivities. But this year the festivities came a little early for the twenty seven odd kids at Topsia Creche. This is a small creche cum school for young kids who’s both parents work to make ends meet. Considering that these kids are from slums and their parents work as daily wage labourers and maids, a visit from the ‘aunties from Anavi’ is something that they eagerly look forward to.

Anavi distributed a set of new clothes for each of the kids, some of whom are as young as 3 at the Topsia Creche on 9th October 2012. One of our member’s friend also distributed bottles of Horlicks and biscuits among the kids. We convey our thanks to her. Good work done with sincerity of heart is infectious.

It was a sense of pride to have the ANAVI Flex displayed during the class.

The noise of “Thank you auntie” easily drowned the blaring Hindi film song playing outside on the street. Their smiles are more than worth the little effort that we make to change their lives for the better. Albeit a small gesture from our side, it means a world to them.

The festivities continued for the Anavi members at Apon Ghar old age home on 12th October when we went to distribute the dresses to the inmates.

Anavi has been associated with this old age home since the last few months. This institute has been a home for around twenty old and aged people who don’t have anybody to look after them. It is always a heart warming experience to visit this institute and listen to their stories; some of them really touch your heart.

Durga Puja being the biggest festival in Bengal, Anavi distributed new set of clothes for all the inmates and spent some lovely time with them. These people only have themselves for company and if any outsider visit them, even if he/she is a total stranger the joy on their faces is hard to miss.

90 minutes and countless blessings later we left. It is very difficult, not to get a little emotional, on a visit like this. The joy of giving, in this case, is absolutely overwhelming.

The day ended with a short visit to Nabneer School which is operated in partnership with Anavi and Nabneer Old Age home where Anavi sponsors the stay of Geeta Sarkar, an old inmate of the institute.

The festivities continued till the weekend when we made a visit to Rashmee School on 13th October. This is a school with which Anavi has a strong association. They teach around 20 slum kids who come from underprivileged backgrounds. Anavi has hired a room as well as a teacher for teaching these kids. Members themselves attend these classes every week and help in teaching these children. Snacks are also given to these kids to encourage them to regularly attend these classes.

The twenty kids were each given a set of new dress for the Durga Puja festival. We would also like to thank one of our well-wishers for her contribution of cakes and biscuits for the students. The unconditional gratitude of these children can easily be felt in their eyes. They convey their thanks and leave. But we, leave with a lot more.

Here’s hoping that next year we will be able to do much more to bring some happiness and joy to their lives. A Very Happy Durga Puja and Dusshera to all.
