Visit to Ramola Villa – 07-November-2009

Visit to Ramola Villa

We assembled at the AESM office while Alaka Di and Sharmila Di went on their own. We proceeded to the Homes around 11 am and were welcomed by the old ladies and the incharge Shika Di with big smiles and happy faces.

Firstly we had given them 30 new mattresses, 30 new pillows, 30 new bedsheets and 30 pillow cases. The inmates were absolutely delighted with their new and comfortable mattresses and pillows and their room looked bright and colourful with the lovely bedspreads and pillow cases. Thanks to Sharmila Di and Alaka Di for their wonderful choice and selection and the time spent at Burra Bazaar.

The inmates were happy to meet and talk to our members and we were very proud to have husbands there as well. Interacting with the old ladies and listening to their stories truly brightened up our lives and made us feel so speical to these old people. We were so happy that we could bring smiles on their faces. The childrens were really good and entertained all present with songs and poems.

Nivedita Paul played the harmonium and sang a few songs in Bengali, then Mahima Biswas recited a lovely poem,

The inmates love littlte children and our Parivaar kids made thier day. Nandita Paul played the harmonium while Maya Di (who is blind) sang some soulful songs which was so uplifitng for all present.

There were 2 old ladies one in the sick room and one downstairs who were 102 years old and we so proud to be able to take their blessings and share some special moments with them.

One thing which stood out was their smiling and content faces – none of them complained about anything but only had cheerful and happy things to tell us about – they were content in this small world of theirs with the little that they had. It was something which we will never forget.

Mr Pradhan, the magnanimous and generous person that he is enquired from the inmates what else they would need and it was decided to give them all new mosquito nets, goodnight active repellants and to repair their mosquito net rods and iron beds, as soon as possible.

All too soon it was time to leave but not without feeling so good within our hearts and seeing the smiling faces of the inmates as they bid us farewell with a promise to keep visiting them.

Our next Meeting will be at the AESM Office on the 5th Dec 09 at 11 am and our next visit would be to Liluah to give the new clothes to the orphan girls of the School.
