Visit to Apon Ghar – 20-February-2014

Visit to Apon Ghar

A visit to Apon Ghar old age home in Thakurpukur, Behala in the southern part of Kolkata has been a regular feature in the Anavi calendar. It is no wonder that most of the inmates remember the members, inspite of their old age. This time it was a visit to take the blessings of the oldies before the big event at Mumbai.

That the institute is located well away from the city centre has never been a deterrent for the ladies of the Anavi. This particular visit also saw active participation from the members. We carried with us ration like oil, atta and tea along with packets of biscuits. But what these ladies cherish most is the time we spend with her.

“Nowadays people only send donations or maybe just come, say hello and leave. Nobody spends time with us like you do. God bless you all”, said Sita di as we enjoyed a cup of tea with her.

Apon Ghar is a small old age home without any big ticket support. Anavi over the years has supported many such small institutes that do not have exposure or grants coming in like many other famous ones.

A Thursday afternoon well spent. It is difficult to compare the time spent chatting with these strangers to any other activity that we normally do in our day to day lives. A small contribution from us that gives us priceless blessings.
