Beach Cleaning Drive- AESM Chennai

In the past 25 years, over 144,606,491 pounds of trash has been collected from beaches world-wide. Millions of plastic micro-particles and other garbage are ingested by fish and other animals that end up injured, then these animals end up on our plate, and the plastic reaches our body. In a study conducted by Orb Media, of 159 samples taken from different seas around the world, 80% had plastic fibres. In order to preserve our marine life and to keep our beaches clean, office staff and seafarers from Anglo Eastern engaged to remove trash from the beach. On 6th July 2019,Saturday morning we went to Marina beach for the Clean-up. We all arrived at 7 am sharp and this was the first time we were doing a beach clean-up, so all were really excited to do. When we were cleaning the beach we found a lot of stuff that shouldn’t belong to the beach. We picked up a lot of sticks, feathers, candy wrappers, straws, pieces of plastic cups and a piece of glass. When we picked up all this trash we were really happy because we felt like we were making a difference and helping the beach to be clean and that’s the way it should be. We really had a lot of fun because while doing this we was also getting exercise which we really like to do. Chennai office staff/family and many sea-staff joined the cleanup which ended with delicious Breakfast.
