Setting of new library – 7-March-2016

Setting up of library at Cremers Foundation at Sarsuna Home and visit to Apon Ghar

Leaving home at 10. Getting back at 5. Travelling 30 odd kms. Meeting people. Assessing progress. Setting deadlines.

Sounds like a routine day for most office goers. Nothing to look forward to and the day ending with the dread of the next. But for Anavi members a day like this would mean – tiredness but satisfaction. The feeling that comes when you know that your efforts have really made a difference.

This day was no other. It started with meeting at the rendezvous point and heading towards Cremers foundation at Sarsuna. On agenda was – setting up of the library, donation of books and assessment of progress of computer classes. On the way a short stopover at electronics store to purchase a TV and DVD player for the children. This will form a part of the classroom teaching aid at the Cremers foundation room. The children will be shown educational DVDs on the big screen. In future this can even be developed into an interactive classroom.

New racks and books brought by aunties of Anavi are the first steps that have been taken to set up a library at the centre. All members have promised to collect and contribute books for the library. Interaction with the teacher gave us a good idea about the progress of 60 odd 8/9 year olds who are learning computers at the Cremers Foundation . Plans of a student assessment exam in July were discussed and syllabus finalized.

After sumptuous lunch offered to us by the ladies at Sarsuna home we headed to Apon Ghar. Recently repairs and painting of this old age home had been taken up. The outer walls have been painted and interiors repaired and painted. New storage cabinets have been built for the oldies and new main door has been fitted. The kitchen has been completely repaired and a new modular kitchen cabinet been set up.

The visits over, blessings received, the members headed back home. Something that we would love to do again and again.
