Repair work done at Jankalyan Society School
The children at Jankalyan Society School had been having a unique experience this monsoon. They were studying in a swimming pool. Well almost. The roof of their classroom had been damaged by the incessant rains and even a small downpour would lead to flooding and eventual cancellation of classes. These kids who come from very poor backgrounds were not really enjoying the holidays as school is a luxury for them,not something that they can take for granted like most of us.
In spite of the hardships they face in their day to day lives, they have the vision that something can be changed and their lives improved by education. Jankalyan Society School has been doing this wonderful job of teaching the poor street children for many years.
Anavi has been associated with this school for two years and has been regularly helping them with their wonderful effort. But this August in 2011 is going to be a memorable one not only for the children but also for the teachers at the school.
The poor condition of the classrooms was a cause of worry and something had to be done quickly. That is where the “aunties from Anavi” stepped in. When we try to do something good, even the heavens help us out. Fortunately, during the week that the repair was going on, the rains gods spared us and the roofs could be mended in super quick time and the children are back, doing what they like to do best.
This was one of the major works that Anavi has taken up. As we grow older (we are in our third year now) there are more people interested to join and contribute and it is through their blessings and prayers that we have been able to come so far.
