Anavi visited Apon Ghar old-age home on 16th August 2013, to give them monthly groceries and spend quality time with them. We spent nearly 3 hours with them.
It was a great day at Ramola Bhawan where we provided lunch for the elderly. The lunch consisted of rice, dal, kakrol fry, shukto, fish curry, chutney and rasgulla. We also gave them tea, sugar and biscuits. Bernie and Kyle Mendonca, Meeta Chatterjee, Sangita Mukherjee, Himadri and Aloka Biswas, and Sharmila Kar were present for the event.
Anavi is providing relief and support to the survivors of the massive destruction in Uttarakhand caused by floods and landslides.
“It turned out better than expected, thanks to you all and especially you, Dr. Mukherjee”, said Maneesh Pradhan congratulating the Anavi members and Dr. Sanjeev Mukherjee who allowed us to use his clinic for the Blood Donation camp on the fourth anniversary of Anavi.
There are many school functions that we have attended and many that we have participated in as well. But this was different. Nabneer School, Chetla, a school for the kids from the less fortunate section of the society, organized their annual function on 14.05.2013.
The visit from the “youngsters” is something that the oldies of Apon Ghar eagerly wait for. So it was no surprise to see the smiles on their faces on 25th April 2013 when the ladies of Anavi visited the old age home to distribute the groceries.
In our continuous effort to help the underprivileged of the society, we make regular visits to various institutes. Apon Ghar is one such organization with which Anavi has a long association. On this occasion, we distributed various groceries to the institute. Apon Ghar has been taking care of old people who have nobody to look after them and our small gesture means a world to them. Supplies of Horlicks, mustard Oil dal and rice were given and some time – the most precious commodity of all in this day and age, was spent with them. We realize that these old people do not have many worldly desires but are happier to meet people who would just sit and listen to them. They do have stories to tell. Believe me!
Rehabilitation Centres For Children, RCFC is an organisation which has dedicated itself to serve the orthopedically disabled underprivileged children. They help these children to bring them back to the mainstream of life. Anavi is proud to be a part of this noble mission. Anavi has helped this mission of RCFC by providing some nutritional and Sanitary items for the little inmates of the hospital. We the members of Anavi visited the hospital, had a chat with the children and experience the pain of these children and their mothers. We have told their Director Mrs. Nandita Dasgupta , that whenever they need our help we are there to help them.
As per our itenary, we visited the Collin Street Janakalyan School on 20th March, 2013. This is a small school with 125 young kids, most of whose parents are potato merchants in the local market. We distributed drawing books, colour pencils, pencils and copy note books to each of the kids. As soon as we entered the school, all stood up and said ‘Namaste Aunty’ and sung for us “We shall over come..” We were entertained with a glass of cold drinks and samosas by the teachers of the school. When we were coming back, the noise of ‘Thank you Aunty” was really heart touching. Their smiles are more than worth the little effort we give. Apart from a small gesture from our side, it makes the world to them.
There are 25 school children in Topsia Creche, who are in need school bags. Parents of most of these children cannot afford to buy school bags for them. So 25 school bags along with pencil box and water bottle has been distributed to these children. A visit has been was made on 14th March, Thursday around 11.30 am. The children were overwhelmed with joy and our motto was fulfilled. While coming back all of them shouted “abar kobey ashbey tomra” (when are you coming back )??.
On 25th February, Anavi donated a LCD TV to an old-age home at Thakurpukur, Apon Ghor. Here all the 25 inmates are women. During the last visit in January, we came to know that their only source of entertainment was TV, which was out of order since last 4 months. We decided to donate it the earliest. A Panasonic LCD 26″ TV was bought and was installed on the same day. The ladies were so happy and ushered us with all their best wishes. They look forward our arrival as they share their views and come out of their boring life.
