Anavi was proud to support the Indian Maritime University’s Mumbai, Port Campus faculty and students to organise a tree plantation drive at Badlapur, Mumbai.
The DMET batch of Indian Maritime University – Port campus concluded on 01st July. The boys here wanted to do something sustainable before they left. Planting trees was an apt thought due to ongoing Monsoon conditions. There wouldn’t be a better time to do this. IMU approached Mr Pradhan which was then followed up by way of funding and logistical support.
Anavi has been looking out to participate in a tree plantation project for long. Our earlier attempts in 2019 and 2020 were not successful and this drive gave us a breakthrough. While the initial plan was to plant 200 trees, we upped the initiative by adding another 200.
Not to left behind – the Forest department added another 100 from their own funding. Besides that, they also dug 150 pits for the kids in advance which greatly helped achieve the 500 trees target
More than 500 tree saplings were planted at Badlapur on July 3rd, which may not be so much in the grand scheme of things but is certainly a lot for only 40+ volunteers to manage! Variety of tree saplings were planted including Moh, Kala Jamun, Teak, Bamboo, Peepal and Amla.
All trees planted are of local variety or will support local flora and fauna. The choice is consistent with soil conditions that generally exists in this area.
Every effort counts when it comes to the environment. We welcome more opportunities to do our part to be kind to nature. Our special thanks to Mr Shashank Bani and the team at IMU for fantastic execution of the project.
