Anavi goes Green, Visit to Children Welfare Association
Most of our members and a new entry – Samantha Mendonca were present for this visit. Saplings of big trees and flowering ones too, were handed over to the children of the school – groups of 5 were made and 7 such groups planted the saplings with the help of their school gardener.
There was so much of joy and enthusiasm as the saplings were planted – the names of some of them are Flame of Forest, Kanchan, Kriohna Chura, Arjun, Land Lotus, Beetel Nut and Hibiscus.
As an incentive the children were told to nurture their saplings and the saplings of the group that grow really well will be awarded by ANAVI. In years to come these plants will turn into big trees giving shelter and controlling pollution. We wish the children all the best and we are sure their school will have one of the best greens in Kolkata.
Chocolate corissants were given to the children by a donor.
It would be worth mentioning that these children are from extremely poor back grounds but are progressing well in their studies and doing their Board exams as well. This school will celebrate its Centenary Year in November 2011 and have invited ANAVI Members to be part of their celebrations.
