“A single pint of blood can save 3 lives; a single gesture can bring a million smiles.”
Since its inception, in 2009, Anavi has made many such gestures to bring a smile to the underprivileged of the society. And there was no better way to celebrate our 9th Anniversary than The Annual Blood Donation camp.
This year, like every year, the blood donation camp was held in association with the Thakurpukur Cancer hospital. The blood is used for the cancer patients who find it hard to afford the treatment. Anavi is proud to be associated with such a noble cause and lend a helping hand. Over the years, this event has always brought a lease of life to many young cancer patients and smiles to their families.
Held on 16th June at AESM, Kolkata office premises, the event is now a permanent fixture in our calendar. Over the years the word has spread and we now have more and more seafarers volunteering and supporting in our endeavor. This year, braving the hot afternoon sun, we had a record number of people turn up. Over 100 registrations took place, out of which 94 could finally donate blood after the medical checkup. Seafarers and their families turned up in good number to be a part of the event. Our special thanks to the students of MERI Kolkata and Mr. RD Rai’s training institute who joined us to make it an even bigger success than we expected.
The smiles on the donors’ faces were ample evidence of the happiness that such a noble act brings. They promised to be a part of this day again next year. On our part, we are already planning for a gathering of 150 plus. Besides the usual health benefits of blood donation, the donors also received goody bags containing food packets and souvenirs. The arrangements were made considering the health of all donors. Glucose water was given prior to and after blood donation as well.
The success of any event is possible by the behind the scenes effort of the whole team. This event, in particular, gets all members charged up. After planning weeks in advance, all members took on various responsibilities to ensure a flawless execution on the day. This year social media was used to spread the word about the event. That was beside the usual tedious hard work of calling up seafarers on leave and telling them one on one. Staff at Anglo Eastern Kolkata office, under the supervision of Mr. Rajan Bose, ensured that maximum seafarers were informed. The numbers that turned up bear testimony to the fact that the effort was not in vain. Organizing the event on such a scale in the office premises was no mean task but the support from the office staff made it look easy.
The Anavi Blood donation camp has become a pan India event with other chapters at various cities organizing such camps on regular basis.
As we enter our 10th year, we look ahead. We are proud of what we have achieved, but instead of resting on our laurels, we feel more energized than ever to achieve bigger goals and do greater good.
Our heartfelt gratitude to our seniors and mentors for their guidance which got us through the thick and thin. Our most sincere thanks to our donors and well-wishers for supporting us throughout this journey.
