Visits to Cremers Foundation, Sarsuna, Apon Ghar, Nabneer School and Voice of the World
“Inspration”,” perseverance”, “motivation” are some of the catchwords which we very often come across nowadays. But at Voice of the World institute in ShakherBazar, Kolkata, you can actually see these ideas in real life. This institute looks after the underprivileged blind people especially children, teaches them and makes them able to stand on their own feet. Anavi has been associated with this institute since last three months .This time again we have donated 75 litres of mustard oil to them.
The visit to Voice of the World on 30th May was a nice conclusion to a month of activities. It began with visits to Cremers Foundation on 9th May to see the progress of classes being held there along with donation of some more books to the library that we have set up.
Visits to Apon Ghar on 17th May to donate groceries to the oldies brought smiles to their faces. A visit by Anavi ladies is always looked forward to since it is something much more precious that we give them – time. At their age,the old ladies are more than happy just to have someone listen to their wonderful stories. And for us – another afternoon well spent!
Visit to Nabneer home was taken up to check upon progress of the repair work being undertaken there. Anavi has got the class rooms and roofs repaired. This will help the institute to conduct the classes during the rainy seasons without interruptions. All these visits tell us stories of grit, determination and motivation. Most of the children and oldies there probably have never heard of these words but to see them go through life – we can’t help but feel inspired.
The “never say die” spirit was reflected in the poem by Rabindranath Tagore that one young blind girl recited to us on our visit to the Voice of the World
