Flashback 2013 – 07-January-2014

2013 – A Year to remember ! – Flash Back

“Both are our babies, we have to take care of both of them.” Mr. Maneesh Pradhan was referring to the Mumbai chapter of Anavi which was launched in 2013.

That was just one of the reasons that 2013 would be one of the most memorable years for Anavi in its young lifespan. We celebrated our 4th anniversary in June this year by organizing a successful blood donation camp in Kolkata attended by seafarers, their families and friends.

Anavi is just four and half years old. That may not count as a ripe old age but this short span of time has been a rather interesting one for the group which has grown over the years. Started in 2009 from the Kolkata office of AESM with the intention of helping the underprivileged sections of the society and spreading the message of environmental preservation at the same time, we have come a long way from those humble beginnings.

With more than fifteen visits to various institutes in and around Kolkata, 2013 has certainly been an eventful year for us. Whether it was the Children’s day celebration at the Sarsuna school or the annual function at Nabneer school , each was a memorable experience for all of us. The blessings of the old ladies of the Ramola bhavan and the smiles of the kids at Topsia Creche will remain with us forever.

We do not measure success but a good indication of the support for Anavi was visible at the blood donation camp organized at Maritime Medical centre on the occasion of our fourth anniversary on 16th June this year. It was also the opportune time to extend the family. The Mumbai chapter of Anavi was launched this year and it is already up and running with the initiative of Mr Pradhan and support from all the senior managers and Capt. Vinay Singh.

A tragedy struck in form of Uttarkhand floods earlier this year. Anavi was up to the task. Relief was organized with Goonj to help out the victims.

“We must do our bit”. That has been the motto. But it is difficult to realize the “bit” is actually a “lot” for the people whose lives we touch in our small but significant way.

But we think we have only done a little bit and a lot still needs to be done. 2014 is here. Our most sincere thanks to AESM and all the contributors who have supported us in our initiative. The contributions that we have received from various ships only strengthen our resolve to do better. 2013 was good. 2104 must be better.

Wishing all A Very Happy New Year.
